“Received a congratulatory call from HE Heng Swee Keat, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance of Singapore this morning. Truly appreciate it.
“HE Heng and I exchanged views on how Singapore and Malaysia can work together to enhance our relations as we enter a new phase of closer and more productive cooperation.
“Considering the close geographical proximity and shared borders between Malaysia and Singapore, it is also paramount for both countries to enhance cooperation in facing the COVID-19 pandemic”, he said.
Dato’ Seri Azmin also added that given Malaysia and Singapore share borders, it is important for the two nations to enhance cooperations in battling the spread of Covid-19.
Dato’ Seri Azmin who was one of the key players in the country’s recent political realignments, has returned to the cabinet as a senior minister — Minister of International Trade and Industry.
Dato’ Seri Azmin, who is Member of Parliament for Gombak and assemblyman for Bukit Antarabangsa (since 2008), was Minister of Economic Affairs under the previous Pakatan Harapan (PH) government which was ousted two weeks ago.
He was former deputy president of Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) in the then PH coalition at the federal level before leading a group of 11 PKR MPs to join Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) helmed by newly-appointed Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
On Feb 23, Mohamed Azmin and his group of MPs broke ranks to join forces with Bersatu and opposition parties Umno and PAS to overthrow the PH government. –THE MALAYA POST
